Insecure Writer's Support Group. Frozen Fingers, Frozen Brain...

Not enough time, not enough time... my usual old excuse for not starting a new story.

I won't be able to concentrate until I've checked Facebook and Twitter and my emails and the online sales and walked the cat... used when the usual old excuse above doesn't ring sufficiently true.

True?  Of course it doesn't ring true.  I know perfectly well that I can write for 10 mins and it's better than nothing, but the dreaded inertia is pulling my fingers back from the keyboard.

What if I get right into it and then lose my thread when I try to pick it up again?  (Has never happened.)

What if I spend ages writing and then don't like what I've written when I could have been checking Facebook and Twitter and my emails and the online sales and walking the cat?   (That's more like it.)

Sometimes I'm just afraid to try, incase I haven't got any more good ideas.

Later this evening I'm going to flex my fingers, resist the inertia and try - but not until after I've checked FB, Twitter and watered the cat.  Or was it walked the cat?

Ooh, do I feel a short story coming on about someone who walks their cat... or better still waters their cat..?

Oh dear, is this blog post ok or have I written a load of rubbish?  It's just so hard to tell.  Sigh.

Isn't it dreadful feeling insecure?  Here, Puss!

Okay - I'm giggling. This evening, I beat the inertia and wrote a story about two kids... who bath a cat. ARGH?! Spooky! (no I really am not kidding)

Go forth and write my friend - if this post is anything to go by, you'll have the world flocking for a read...

Writing? You have to be kidding - I don't even have time for all my procrastination activities!

btw, my cousin used to walk her rabbit on a lead.

This is something I'm really making myself stick to. Hope you have luck with it in the future as well - new follower :)

Water the cat and it will be the last thing you do!

My cat likes water - he goes out in the rain and he stands on the side of the bath when I have a shower - meowing loudly if I don't turn the shower on when he wants it!

As for the rest, all writing is productive, all ideas are good ideas just maybe not always in the right order!

Hi Linda! Your post made me laugh, I'm giggling about watering my cat now and what his reaction would be if I did. I can totally relate to your feelings here though. So glad to meet you through the IWSG and I'm looking forward to following your blog!

This was so funny. I'm pretty sure that every single one of us can relate to this to some extent :-)

This is exactly how I feel. Too funny. I barely have time to work on my WIP. Why? To busy working and taking care of kids. Then when I do have time what am I doing? Blogging, facebook, tweeting anything but writing.

I feel your pain. Often I avoid writing because I'm just scared that I won't put enough down, or what I could put down will be rubbish. I think maybe having a set scheduled time to write may help. (Not that I listen to my own advice) but say you schedule it for 6pm, write for as long as you have, then leave. Eventually at that time everyday you will know you have to sit down and type and it becomes habit.

I may have to try this myself. It sounds quite sensible.

Thanks so much everyone for the comments! Rebecca, you read my mind - I had just decided to sit down at 6.30pm each day and write for one hour!

Dear cats I had no idea so many people were in the insecure writers group. Several people I follow are in it, but so many!

There's nothing wrong with watering your cat. I water my dog every day. Granted, he's a chia pet.

Gave you a shout-out on my post today!

I have walked a cat but have never watered a cat. It sounds like a wonderful distraction from that thing I pretend to call a vocation.

Stopped over from Kittie's blog. :)
